About Us

It is our mission to engage, embrace, and encourage the local and international cinematic vision of creative storytellers by providing a multifaceted event that highlights and nourishes the local culture of a small blue collar city rich with an automotive history of grit and fortitude by providing educational opportunities and creative activities along with collaborative development of film projects.

We strive to create an atmosphere of inspiration through well-attended screenings, high-quality programming, stimulating panel discussions, and opportunities for authentic engagement. This festival thrives on fostering lasting connections and partnerships among attendees, filmmakers, and industry professionals.

Antoine McKay

Founder / President / Executive Director

For over 20 years, Antoine McKay has been among the leading actors and directors to hail from the MidWest. He developed his passion for acting at a young age and honed his skills at Eastern Michigan University's prestigious theatre arts program and by studying under world famous acting coach, Uta Hagen.

McKay began his professional acting career at the Second City's Main Stages in Detroit and Chicago, where he wrote and performed in over 20 critically acclaimed shows. His credits include starring roles in countless commercials and television appearances on programs including Detroit 187 (ABC), ER (NBC), Prison Break (FOX), Sports Action Team (NBC), Patriot (Amazon), Empire (FOX), and South Side (Comedy Central).

McKay has appeared in such feature films as The Weatherman, with Nicholas Cage, Someone to Eat Cheese With, alongside Jeff Garland, Standing in the Shadows of Motown, and Osso Bucco, with Mike Starr

Michelle Guernsey-McKay

Founder / Vice President / Director of Arts & Community Relations

A former special education teacher for almost 20 years with a Dance Education Bachelors degree and Masters degree in Special Education with an Autism endorsement from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michelle is also a self-taught stained-glass mosaic artist. She loves to connect with people and hear their stories. Her mosaic business, where she offers workshops in Glass-on-Glass mosaic techniques, has given space for others to not only learn how to create these beautiful pieces of art but to connect with others in shared time of conversation and creativity. She has recently renewed her love for acting, guest starring in the film Fatal Influence: like, follow, share, and in The G on Prime video, along with starring as the lead in the television show Michelle S. Bitts, Ph.D, filmed in Wayne, Michigan.

James Shabazz

Director of Marketing & Sponsorship Coordination

Chicago native, James Shabazz is an established dynamic Producer with extensive experience in TV, commercials, film and still photography.   With an in-depth understanding of film, television, and private consulting, he has a combination of pragmatic problem solving skills and resourceful ingenuity.  He excels in outreach to multicultural markets by utilizing multi-segment platforms and new media strategies.  As a Strategic Media Marketing Manager he has designed and implemented the most practical and effective visual strategies to reach target audiences resulting in increased profits and a greater market share by listening and promoting diverse culture around a brand.  Most recently he has established himself as a successful producer of sitcoms, documentaries and independent films.  He formed White City Films in 2017.  

Margie B. Shabazz

Director of Media & Content Programming

Award winning director and producer, Margie Shabazz has international experience in commercial production, still photography and independent filmmaking. With a combined 15 years of experience in television and business management, she has a unique amalgamation of progressive number crunching and artistic creativity.  Her portfolio includes hundreds of productions, with a variety of clients, which incorporated both her production management and creative development skills. She formed White City Films in 2017 to put her talents to work and develop her writing and director skills through a variety of projects . Margie works closely with independent entrepreneurs, industry professionals and with her alma mater DePaul University to develop financially sound projects that advance the filmmaking community.

Rhonda Graham

A long time resident in the Wayne-Westland Area, she loves to give back to her community by being an active member of the Event Leadership Team for eight years the local Westland/Wayne Relay for Life.   Rhonda has a passion for connecting with others and helping them to find their truest selves!  She is driven in her journey of personal development and loves to inspire others to become passionate about being authentic in ever aspect of their lives.  She recently played an extra in a television show Michelle S. Bitts PHD, filmed in Wayne, Michigan.

The beloved crown jewel of downtown Wayne, The Classic State-Wayne Theatre was built in 1946 in the classic art deco style of architecture and features Michigan's largest wrap-around marquee. The multi-screen movie house is owned and operated by Phoenix Theaters and operates 3 screens which show first-run movies and a live performance stage.

Submit Your Film

GENERAL RULES 

  • Works can be submitted regardless of when they were completed. 

  • Submissions do not have to be premieres to be selected for exhibition..

  • Works in progress may be submitted, but only during the Late or Extended deadlines and only if the film will be completed for final review at least seven weeks before the Festival opening. The review committee will only watch one version of your film, so make it your latest/greatest cut possible. 

  • Films that have had a limited commercial theatrical run or other distribution are allowed to submit. 

  • There is no limit on number of works submitted, but each entry must be separate, appropriately labeled and accompanied by the required fee.

  • Submit works online (preferable) 

  • In rare cases the filmmaker may have to provide another format version to be exhibited if the film cannot be programmed into a slot where the original format can be projected. 

  • Submitted screeners, screenplays and press materials will not be returned. 

  • Festival is not responsible for lost or damaged materials.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Upon selection applicant is requested to provide WIITFF with highest quality film format available, trailer, color film stills and posters, and any other available press materials.

 

Once accepted applicant gives WIITFF the right to use images and information from the film and trailer for all advertising and promotion purposes.

 

Submission of film indicates applicant's full intention to exhibit at WIITFF if selected for programming. As such, filmmaker waives the right to withdraw their film from WIITFF at any time for any reason
